A second chance starts at home
Safe, stable housing, recovery support and real job training for people coming home.
Coming home is hard. Doing it without a stable place to live, a path to a paycheck, or people in your corner is harder. We are building all three in one place.

Three things people need to come home for good
A safe place to live
A small, supervised recovery residence with a live-in house manager, for people with felony records who want a stable, sober start.
A way to earn
A training center built around job readiness and a credentialed career path in tax preparation, which is open to many people with records.
People in your corner
Accountability, mentors, employers who hire and a community that wants you to succeed. Nobody has to do reentry alone.
Stable housing is where everything else begins
Almost everything that helps a person rebuild after prison depends on having an address: a job application, a bank account, a driver's license, a probation or parole plan, seeing your children. Too many people leave custody with no home to go to, and too many programs are full or turn them away.
Homes in the Hood is a Lynchburg nonprofit working to close that gap, with a recovery residence, a training center and a circle of partners. We are growing carefully, and every dollar, volunteer hour and introduction helps us open the doors sooner.
Homeplace Restoration & Second Chance Beauty
In Norfolk, Homes in the Hood is working with the Virginia State Barber and Beauty Association (VSBBA) and community sponsors on the Homeplace Restoration & Second Chance Beauty Program, a pathway into the barber and beauty professions for people with a second chance to earn.
