About Us

Housing, recovery and work for people coming home.

Our mission

Homes in the Hood exists so that people coming home from incarceration in Lynchburg have a real chance to make it: a safe, sober place to live, a way to earn a living, and a community that expects the best from them.

We serve adults with felony records, including people in recovery from addiction. We believe a record describes where someone has been, not who they are, and that the neighborhoods hit hardest by incarceration are also full of people ready to help someone get back on their feet.

A second chance starts at home.

How we work

Our approach

Housing first, then growth

You cannot work on recovery, a job or a family when you do not know where you are sleeping. A stable home comes first, then everything built on top of it.

Accountability with respect

Residents are adults. We set clear expectations, support people who are doing the work, and treat everyone with dignity from the first conversation.

Skills that pay

Our training center focuses on skills with real earning power, including a credentialed path into tax preparation, plus job readiness for any career.

Who we serve

Open to people ready to rebuild

  • Adults returning to the Lynchburg area from jail or prison, with felony records
  • People in recovery from addiction who want a sober, structured home
  • Referrals from probation and parole officers, reentry councils, courts, treatment programs, churches and families
  • Anyone motivated to work, follow house expectations and take the next step

Not sure whether you qualify? Ask us or send a short application. We would rather hear from you than have you assume the answer is no.

Our commitments

Built to be trusted

  • Residents are treated fairly and equally, without discrimination.
  • Our recovery housing is designed to follow national recovery-residence standards and Virginia's certification requirements.
  • Money is handled openly, with written policies and independent oversight on decisions that involve insiders.
  • Resident information is kept private and used only to help people.

Be part of the story

Whether you need a home or want to help build one, we would love to hear from you.
